Our Progress so far…
Not very far…..
Well after some delays, caused by us both having bad colds and plus not being able to find the necessary products for the diet, we have finally started our new regimen.
Not as per schedule, but picking out those recipes for which we could get ingredients which is not so easy here in our part of Spain even down on the coast…….
Amazon.es is quite useful for many supplies like Cassava flour, Arrowroot powder and Inulin which is high in fibre, low in calories, and has other health benefits.
It keeps you full (of fibre). Fibre is any type of carbohydrate the body can’t digest. for instance …. also known as a Resistant Starch.
Product prices vary so much on Amazon for these products. I have tried to pick out the best value products.
The Arrowroot I bought for 9€ for a kilo has disappeared…. it was the very best value.
A purchasing tip on Amazon……
they may say that you have to purchase a minimum amount to get free delivery….. but all my deliveries were made free even though they were less than the stated minimum!
Just go to your basket and watch to see that a delivery charge doesn’t appear…:-)
Grass fed animal Meats – Another problem unless you can afford to purchase a large amount online and put in your freezer. Two problems for us……. tiny budget and tiny gas freezer!!
So at the moment we have bought lamb when available locally and have chosen beef over pork or chicken as we believe there’s a greater chance that they have a mostly grass diet.
In fact, Rasa, who is in the UK working at the moment, found some venison to buy….:-)
She was very happy….
We both love chicken but all are corn fed, plus stuffed full of growth hormones and antibiotics amongst many other evil chemicals so we are steering clear of them, the same with farmed fish, which unless it’s stated they are wild, believe me they are farmed….. and the nutritional benefits of fish are greatly decreased when they are farmed.
Take omega-3 fatty acids. Wild fish get their omega-3’s from aquatic plants. Farmed fish, however, are often fed corn, soy, or other feed-stuffs that contain little or no omega-3’s. This unnatural, high-corn diet also means some farmed fish accumulate unhealthy levels of the wrong fatty acids. Further, farmed fish are routinely dosed with antibiotics, which can cause antibiotic-resistant disease in humans.
Farmed fish are packed as tightly as coins in a purse, with twenty-seven adult trout, for example, typically scrunched into a bathtub-sized space. These unnatural conditions give rise to diseases and parasites, which often migrate off the farm and infect wild fish populations. On Canada’s Pacific coast, for example, sea lice infestations are responsible for mass kill-offs of pink salmon that have destroyed 80% of the fish in some local populations.
Fish farms are also rife with toxins, which also damage local ecosystems.
You can’t have diseases and parasites infecting your economic units, so operators fight back by dumping concentrated antibiotics and other chemicals into the water. Such toxins damage local ecosystems in ways we’re just beginning to understand.
Farmed fish are living in their own feces.
That’s right, fish poop too. Farmed fish waste falls as sediment to the seabed in sufficient quantities to overwhelm and kill marine life in the immediate vicinity and for some distance beyond. It also promotes algal growth, which reduces water’s oxygen content and makes it hard to support life. When the Israeli government learned that algal growth driven by two fish farms in the Red Sea was hurting nearby coral reefs, it shut them down.
Having said all that…………..
Carrefour in Cadiar sell frozen portions of wild salmon and some small wild prawns…. but if you want more Omega-3s suggest that you eat lots of flax hemp or walnuts… 🙂
Very much more cost effective too.
More Later…..
